Note - For windows users, I've never used formatting software for windows, but when you are trying to format to HFS+ (aka Mac OS Extended), see if there are any options to change the partition scheme before formatting. Let it finish and your hdd will now work with Mac and xbox 360. Next to 'Format', make sure 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled) is selectedĪnd thats it. This is the key step->Select the 'Apple Partition Map' option Under 'Partition Layout', click the drop down and select 'Partition 1' First, i'm using a 2.5tb WD Essential HDD. I use a mac so the steps below won't really help anybody running windows, but the overall solution should be the same for everybody.

"For anybody still having problems, i've figured it out. I wanted to try formatting to FAT32 (despite the 4GB file size limitation,) but that is seemingly no longer an option on my iMac running Mountain Lion 10.8.4.īased on your suggestion I searched xbox "360 GPT"Īt the very end he has a solution and says that the GPT does not work with the Xbox 360. There are also indications that there may be a 2TB limit on xbox external drives, but also that they are still readable by the Xbox, just won't show any data over 2TB. My web research indicates there are people out there using USB3 drives on the xbox. However, the xbox won't recognize the new drive in either HFS+ or exFAT formats. I know that external hard drive compatibility on the 360 is a crapshoot, but my hope was that by sticking with the same brand/similar model that it would work as before. Recently I ran out of space so I bought a new 3TB LaCie d2 Thunderbolt/USB3 drive.
